The project aimed to design and manufacture 2 x 60t and 1 x 120t silos with vibrating discharge feeders. The work involved welding stainless steel and assembling multiple silos measuring 11 meters high and 4 meters wide, and delivering them from Adelaide to Price.
The Cheetham Salt Limited, Price Manufacturing Facility is situated on St. Vincent’s Gulf, approximately 140km north-west of Adelaide, SA. This operation includes a sea water fed, solar salt field and the largest manufacturing site within the Cheetham Salt network. This site commenced operations in 1919.
The site produces a range of products for segments, such as food manufacturing, retail, export food markets, animal feed and industrial applications. Packaging size ranges from smaller packs through to larger packs, between 10kg and25kg through to bulk bags. This site supplies a growing export market with on-site container loading capacity & shipping via the Port of Adelaide.
Project Resilience will see the Price site transform into one of the biggest and best Salt Refineries in the Southern Hemisphere. The upgrades will enable the site to focus on increasing production of Food Grade quality salt. This project will see the Price site become fit for the future, and a sustainable business for another 100 years
Scope of work
The project aimed to design and manufacture 2 x 60t and 1 x 120t silos with vibrating discharge feeders. The work involved welding stainless steel and assembling multiple silos measuring 11 meters high and 4 meters wide, and delivering them from Adelaide to Price.
The responsibilities and obligations included:
- The discharger is designed to operate with free-flowing dry salt and attach directly to the cone of the dry salt silo
- All miscellaneous hardware associated with Vibrating Feeder
- All required gaskets
- Primer required for corrosion protection
- Nameplate of equipment
- Operational spares
- Material supply
- ITP documentation
- MDR records
- Weld procedures
Skills/services demonstrated
- Large-format stainless steel fabrication — welding and assembly of vessels at 11m height and 4m diameter, at 60–120t capacity
- Food-grade equipment standards — corrosion protection (primer) and hardware suited to food manufacturing/export-grade product handling
- Integrated mechanical component supply — vibrating discharge feeders engineered to attach directly to the silo cone, not a bolt-on afterthought
- Full quality and compliance documentation — ITPs, MDRs (Manufacturing Data Records), and weld procedures delivered as a complete package, not just the equipment
- Logistics and delivery — transporting oversized fabricated vessels from an Adelaide workshop to a remote regional site
- Spares and lifecycle support — operational spares supplied alongside the primary equipment, showing a whole-of-life view rather than just an install-and-leave scope
